In memory of the 150 souls on flight 9525

I boarded a flight early last week.  I saw the curve of the Earth and I wished the moment could have been shared with my children and husband.  This was a business trip and the first time I would be away from my family for so long– ever.  Two weeks flies by in familiar territory.  I was definitely not in familiar territory.  I crossed more than time zones on the flight from Washington state to Arkansas– the Natural State.  I knew the camera on my phone would produce a decent picture of a moving and powerful view. The fuzzy image would have to do– I’d do my best to try to describe what cannot be described when I recounted it to my family.

Getting to Arkansas from a tiny airport is an all day trek.  Over the next few days and weeks, the…

a the seashore

The whole world is sleeping

Not you and me

No care of tomorrow

It’s but a dream

Winter moonlight

The light gently streams

Hinting at sunrise

Celestial unseen

Let’s run away

Again and again

Take me away

It’s time to begin

Lupus and Me: A Hard Story To Tell by Estela Caballero

If there ever was a disease that had the folklore behind it that best fit the magical realism I believed was just plain old reality, lupus is it.  The word lupus is Latin for wolf.  In times past, people who suddenly got a distinct red rash across their face were believed to have been bitten by a wolf.  Stories of witches, ghosts and vampire like creatures that would come into your home and beat you with a broom across your back or leave purplish welts on your body from trying to suck the life out of you were not dark fairy tales to me.  I heard of the stories in the same manner that other children learned which side of the plate the spoon and fork should be placed when they set the table.  If a witch was believed to have entered your home, this was the one exception where it…

OMWow! Nerd stuff I love by Estela Caballero

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 9,500 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

When In Rome

I recently spent some time in Burlington, Iowa.  It’s a lovely place with even lovelier people.  I’m not a good photographer but I take pictures and edit them so the final result is something that I am happy with.  I know I probably break all the basic rules but I’m ok with that 🙂

I was there for 7 days for work and had to add this shameless selfie titled “When in Rome” for a dear friend.  Too much time on your hands tends to produce lots of unnecessary selfies!

Thanks to Karen and team for the local gear. Go Gators!

Such beautiful buildings and rich history in a great town.  Thanks Burlington!

Buildings with history.

today

I didn’t consider it a gift at the time.  When you’re at that place you know you might lose everything, you are forever changed. Exhaustion and a darkness threaten to take up permanent residence where hope used to live.  Here’s what I know– if those things hadn’t happened, I might still be powering through all the moments that need some pondering.  I’d still be thinking rushing through the good stuff was necessary not understanding that I was missing life.  Life isn’t something that can be figured out.  It is just moments, a succession of moments that run together so fast.  Walk slow through the lovely moments.  Run your fingers over the face of one you love.  Trace the path to your dreams in the sky and don’t dare believe having your head in the clouds is a bad thing.  So often perspective begins from a distance.  The clouds offer the…

All In Time by Estela Caballero

A dark little rhyme– because we all know life happens in the shadows sometimes.
The trick is learning how to move past it without letting it consume you.

It would become clear to her

All in good time

The answer

The secret

Drunk upon wine

Something awoke her

Now in her mind

Was it laying in wait for her

Eyes open

No cries

At the time of her launch

From the heavens

From sky

Take the scene in the future

They’d all question why

Now the departed will answer

All in good time

Don’t ask for answers

Your mind will resist

All that will come of it

Relentless pain and guilt

If by chance it’s revealed to you

After all it was hidden in plain sight

Deep breath

Then I’ll pray for you

A sweet little lie

When this one starts

That other met end

When this one begged

The other with crown upon head

All in time he said

You’re just a girl

Stand back where it’s safe

You see

You might get hurt

All in time
